
Sheikh Darvesh Sahib bids farewell as Kerala’s State Police Chief
In an emotional ceremony held in the state capital, Kerala’s outgoing State Police Chief (SPC) Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, IPS bid farewell to his colleagues and the people of Kerala on Monday, 30 June, marking the end of his illustrious career in the police service. The ceremony was attended by top officials, including the Chief Minister of Kerala, as well as dignitaries from various walks of life.
As the curtains closed on his 30-year-long journey in the police force, Sheikh Darvesh Sahib expressed his gratitude to his colleagues, successive governments, and the people of Kerala for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout his career. The officer, who has been instrumental in shaping the state’s police force, has been praised for his exceptional leadership skills, innovative approaches, and tireless efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, a 1984-batch IPS officer, took charge as the State Police Chief in 2020 and has since been credited with several initiatives aimed at modernizing the police force and improving its efficiency. Under his leadership, Kerala Police has achieved significant milestones in terms of crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution.
One of his most notable achievements has been the implementation of the Kerala Police IT Mission, which aimed to leverage technology to enhance the police force’s capabilities. The initiative has enabled the police to digitize their operations, improve communication, and enhance public services.
Moreover, Sheikh Darvesh Sahib has been instrumental in promoting community policing and has worked closely with local communities to address their concerns and improve their quality of life. The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, and other dignitaries who attended the ceremony praised Sheikh Darvesh Sahib for his outstanding service and leadership. The Chief Minister said, “Sheikh Darvesh Sahib has been a dedicated and committed officer who has always put the interests of the people of Kerala first. We are grateful for his services and wish him a happy and peaceful retirement.”
