Ashu & 2 others resign as Congress loses Ludhiana West bypoll
The Congress party in Punjab has been dealt a significant blow with the loss of the Ludhiana West bypoll. The party’s candidate, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, took responsibility for the loss and resigned from his post as Working President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC). Two other prominent leaders, MLA Pargat Singh and former MLA Kushaldeep Singh (Kikki Dhillon), who are also Vice Presidents of the PPCC, have also resigned in solidarity with Ashu.
The bypoll was held on November 7, and the results were declared on November 10. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate, Hardeep Singh Mundian, won the election by a margin of over 10,000 votes.
Ashu, who was a strong contender in the election, took responsibility for the loss and resigned from his post as Working President of the PPCC. In a statement, he said, “I have decided to resign from the post of Working President of the PPCC as I feel that I am responsible for the party’s loss in the bypoll.”
Pargat Singh and Kushaldeep Singh, who were instrumental in Ashu’s campaign, also resigned in solidarity with him. They have been vocal critics of the Congress party’s leadership and have been demanding reforms within the party.
The resignation of these three leaders is a significant blow to the Congress party in Punjab, which is already reeling from a series of defeats. The party has been struggling to regain its lost ground in the state, and the loss of the Ludhiana West bypoll is a major setback.
The SAD, on the other hand, has welcomed the victory with open arms. Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal congratulated Mundian on his win and said, “This victory is a testament to the people’s faith in the SAD and our leadership.”
The Congress party, meanwhile, is trying to regroup and re-strategize. Party leaders are holding meetings to discuss the reasons behind the loss and are trying to come up with a plan to revive the party’s fortunes in the state.
The loss of the Ludhiana West bypoll is not just a blow to the Congress party, but also to the state’s politics. The bypoll was seen as a litmus test for the party’s leadership and its ability to connect with the people.
In recent years, the Congress party has been losing ground in Punjab. The party won just 17 seats in the 2017 Assembly elections, down from 46 seats in 2012. The SAD, on the other hand, won 15 seats, down from 56 seats in 2012.
The party’s leadership has been under attack from within, with many leaders demanding reforms and a change in the party’s strategy. The loss of the Ludhiana West bypoll is likely to add to the pressure on the party’s leadership.
The resignation of Ashu, Pargat Singh, and Kushaldeep Singh is a significant development in Punjab politics. The three leaders have been prominent voices within the party, and their resignation is likely to send shockwaves across the state.
The Congress party is facing a major crisis in Punjab, and the loss of the Ludhiana West bypoll is just the latest setback. The party needs to regroup and re-strategize if it wants to regain its lost ground in the state.
