Kerala Farmer Electrocuted by Neighbour’s Illegal Wild Boar Trap
In a tragic turn of events, a 65-year-old farmer, Shivankutty K Pillai of Thamarakulam in Kerala, lost his life on Monday morning after stepping on an electrified wild boar trap allegedly set up by his neighbour. The incident occurred around 7:30 AM as Shivankutty was walking through his neighbour’s land on the way to his farm.
According to reports, Shivankutty was on his daily routine to tend to his farm when he accidentally stepped on the electrified trap, which was set up by his neighbour to catch wild boars. The trap was designed to deliver an electric shock to the animal, causing it to fall unconscious. However, in this case, it was Shivankutty who ended up getting electrocuted, resulting in his untimely death.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the community, with locals expressing outrage and disbelief at the senseless act of cruelty. “How could anyone set up such a trap in their own land, without taking into account the safety of others?” asked a local resident. “This is a clear case of negligence and recklessness, and the neighbour who set up the trap should be held accountable.”
Police officials have launched an investigation into the incident, and are currently looking for the neighbour who allegedly set up the trap. “We are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action against the person responsible,” said a police officer. “We urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward and help us bring the perpetrator to justice.”
This incident is not an isolated one. Wild boar traps are a common sight in rural areas of Kerala, where they are used to control the population of wild boars that can damage crops and property. However, many of these traps are set up illegally, and without proper safety measures in place. In recent years, there have been several cases of people getting injured or killed by these traps, highlighting the need for greater awareness and regulation.
The Kerala government has announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh to Shivankutty’s family, and has also promised to take stern action against the person responsible for setting up the trap. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Shivankutty’s life, and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,” said a government spokesperson. “We will ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice, and that measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.”
In the meantime, Shivankutty’s family is struggling to come to terms with the loss of their loved one. “We are devastated by his passing, and are still trying to process the events of that morning,” said Shivankutty’s son. “We hope that the authorities will take swift action against the person responsible, and that justice will be served.”
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible wildlife management, and the need for greater awareness about the dangers of illegal wild boar traps. It is our hope that Shivankutty’s story will inspire others to take action, and to demand greater accountability from those who set up these traps.
