TMC MLA says Op Sindoor is ‘scripted drama’; BJP reacts
In a recent statement that has sparked a political row, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Narendranath Chakraborty has called India’s Operation Sindoor, a series of airstrikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan, a “scripted drama”. The MLA also claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had held discussions with Pakistan before conducting the May 7 strikes.
Chakraborty’s comments have been met with strong condemnation from the BJP, with the party’s spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari calling his remarks “disgraceful”. The BJP has accused the TMC of making such statements to appease its vote bank.
Operation Sindoor was a series of airstrikes conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on May 7, targeting terror camps and infrastructure in Pakistan. The strikes were carried out in response to a suicide bombing in Punjab’s Jalandhar, which killed three people and injured several others.
Chakraborty’s comments on the operation have sparked outrage among political leaders and citizens alike. “Operation Sindoor is a scripted drama,” he said in a statement. “The BJP government had held discussions with Pakistan before conducting the airstrikes. This is a clear indication that the operation was planned and executed with Pakistan’s knowledge.”
The TMC MLA’s remarks have been widely criticized, with many calling them a betrayal of national security and the sacrifices made by the Indian armed forces. The BJP has accused Chakraborty of trying to undermine the morale of the armed forces and the country’s defense capabilities.
“The TMC MLA’s statement is a clear attempt to demoralize the armed forces and undermine the country’s defense capabilities,” said BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari. “The Operation Sindoor was a bold and decisive move by the Indian government to teach Pakistan a lesson for its continued support to terrorism. Chakraborty’s statement is a betrayal of national security and the sacrifices made by the Indian armed forces.”
The BJP has also accused the TMC of making such statements to appease its vote bank. “TMC can go to any lengths just to appease its vote bank,” said Bhandari. “They are trying to create false narratives and undermine the government’s efforts to tackle terrorism. We will not let them succeed.”
The TMC has yet to respond to the BJP’s criticism, but Chakraborty’s statements have sparked a heated debate on social media. Many have called for him to be expelled from the party for his comments, while others have defended him, saying that he has the right to express his opinion.
The controversy comes at a time when the country is still reeling from the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack, which killed over 40 CRPF personnel and injured many others. The attack was carried out by a suicide bomber affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a Pakistan-based terror group.
In the aftermath of the attack, the Indian government has taken several measures to strengthen national security, including the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
However, the TMC MLA’s comments have sparked concerns about the government’s ability to tackle terrorism and its commitment to national security. The BJP has accused the TMC of being soft on terrorism and of trying to undermine the government’s efforts to tackle the issue.
As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the TMC will respond to the BJP’s criticism and whether Chakraborty will face any disciplinary action for his comments.
