Saw 3 girls falling, no one rescued them: Eyewitness on stampede in Bengaluru
The city of Bengaluru was left reeling in shock and grief after a tragic stampede broke out during the celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on May 26. The incident occurred at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where thousands of fans had gathered to rejoice in the team’s win. Unfortunately, the euphoria soon turned into chaos and tragedy, claiming the lives of at least 11 people.
As the news of the stampede spread like wildfire, eyewitness accounts began to pour in, painting a harrowing picture of the events that unfolded. One such eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, shared a chilling account of the tragedy. According to him, he saw three girls falling during the stampede, but no one came forward to rescue them.
“A lot of girls tried to enter the M Chinnaswamy Stadium by pushing the gate,” the eyewitness recalled. “It was a chaotic scene, with people pushing and shoving each other to get inside. I saw three girls falling, but no one seemed to care. They were trampled upon, and no one came to their rescue. It was a heart-wrenching scene, and I was left feeling helpless.”
The eyewitness also pointed out that the police personnel on duty seemed overwhelmed by the situation. “A lot of people arrived suddenly, and the police seemed helpless to control the crowd. They were trying to manage the situation, but it was too late. The stampede had already taken its toll,” he added.
The incident has left many questions unanswered. How did the stadium authorities allow such a large crowd to gather without adequate security measures in place? Why did the police not act swiftly to prevent the stampede? And most importantly, how could such a tragedy occur in a city known for its vibrant and lively atmosphere?
The stampede was reportedly triggered by a surge of fans who rushed towards the gates of the stadium as soon as the match ended. The crowd had been building up throughout the day, with many fans arriving late to the stadium. As the match ended, the excitement and euphoria got the better of the crowd, leading to a sudden and uncontrolled rush towards the gates.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as “absolute chaos”, with people pushing and shoving each other to get inside the stadium. The stampede was so intense that it was difficult for people to breathe, let alone escape. The screams and wails of the injured and the dying filled the air, as the crowd continued to surge forward, unaware of the devastation that was unfolding.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and several officials have been suspended pending an inquiry. The stadium authorities have also promised to improve safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the city of Bengaluru mourns the loss of innocent lives, the eyewitness’s account serves as a stark reminder of the importance of crowd control and emergency preparedness. It is a sobering reminder that even in the midst of joy and celebration, tragedy can strike without warning.
