IndiGo Cancels Flights to and from 6 Cities Including Jammu & Amritsar for May 13
In a sudden move, IndiGo, one of India’s largest low-cost carriers, has announced the cancellation of its flight operations to and from six cities, including Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot, for May 13. The decision has been taken “in light of latest developments and with [passenger] safety as our utmost priority,” IndiGo said in a statement.
The cancellation of flights comes on the heels of a precautionary blackout in Amritsar on Monday, which reportedly caused an IndiGo flight bound for Amritsar to return to Delhi midway. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of air travel in the region, leading IndiGo to take the decision to cancel its flights to and from these cities.
IndiGo’s decision to cancel its flights has left thousands of passengers stranded, with many taking to social media to express their frustration and disappointment. “Disappointed and frustrated with @IndiGo6E for cancelling my flight to Jammu. No prior intimation or compensation offered. #IndiGo #FlightCancellation,” tweeted a disgruntled passenger.
The cancellation of flights has also caused inconvenience to passengers who were planning to travel to these cities for various reasons, including business, tourism, and family visits. “I have a business meeting in Jammu and now I’m stuck in Delhi. #IndiGo #FlightCancellation,” tweeted another passenger.
IndiGo’s decision to cancel its flights is not the first instance of disruption to air travel in the region. In recent months, there have been several instances of flight cancellations and diversions due to bad weather, technical issues, and other factors.
In November last year, IndiGo cancelled several flights to and from Delhi due to a technical issue with one of its aircraft. In December, a SpiceJet flight was diverted to Amritsar due to bad weather, causing a delay of several hours. In January this year, a GoAir flight was cancelled due to a technical issue, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
The cancellation of flights has also raised concerns about the preparedness of airlines to handle disruptions. “The cancellation of flights is a serious issue and reflects poorly on the preparedness of airlines to handle disruptions. Passengers deserve better and airlines need to do more to ensure their safety and convenience,” said an aviation expert.
In conclusion, IndiGo’s decision to cancel its flights to and from six cities, including Jammu and Amritsar, for May 13, has caused significant inconvenience to thousands of passengers. While the decision has been taken in the interests of passenger safety, it is essential that airlines take steps to improve their preparedness to handle disruptions and ensure the safety and convenience of passengers.
