IndiGo Cancels Flights to and from 6 Cities Including Jammu & Amritsar for May 13
In a sudden move, IndiGo, one of India’s largest private airlines, has announced the cancellation of its flight operations to and from six cities, including Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot, for May 13. The decision has been taken “in light of latest developments and with [passenger] safety as our utmost priority,” IndiGo said in a statement.
The move comes on the heels of a recent incident where an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Amritsar was forced to return to the capital city midway after a precautionary blackout was reported at Amritsar’s airport on Monday. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and reliability of air travel in the region.
According to reports, the flight, operated by IndiGo’s Airbus A320 aircraft, took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 9:30 AM and was scheduled to land in Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport at 11:15 AM. However, due to the reported blackout at Amritsar airport, the flight was diverted to Delhi and landed safely at 10:30 AM.
The cancellation of flights by IndiGo has caused inconvenience to many passengers who had booked tickets for travel on May 13. The airline has, however, assured passengers that it is working to minimize the impact of the cancellations and is making arrangements to accommodate affected passengers on alternative flights.
In a statement, IndiGo said, “We are working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of our passengers and crew. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our passengers during this time.”
The cancellation of flights by IndiGo is likely to have a significant impact on the region’s transportation infrastructure, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, where air travel is a crucial mode of transportation. The state has been facing challenges in maintaining its air connectivity in recent months, with several airlines, including IndiGo, canceling flights due to security concerns and inclement weather.
The cancellation of flights by IndiGo is not the first instance of disruptions to air travel in the region. In recent months, several airlines, including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India, have canceled flights to and from Jammu and Kashmir due to security concerns and inclement weather.
The decision to cancel flights by IndiGo has been welcomed by some passengers, who have expressed concerns about the safety and reliability of air travel in the region. “I was supposed to travel to Amritsar on May 13, but I’m glad that IndiGo has canceled the flight,” said Rohan Sharma, a passenger who was scheduled to travel on the cancelled flight. “Safety should always be the top priority, and I appreciate IndiGo’s decision to prioritize passenger safety.”
However, others have expressed disappointment and frustration at the cancellation of flights. “I had booked my ticket well in advance, and I’m now facing a lot of inconvenience,” said Kavita Singh, a passenger who was scheduled to travel to Jammu on May 13. “I hope IndiGo can provide an alternative solution or compensation to affected passengers.”
The cancellation of flights by IndiGo is a reminder of the importance of prioritizing passenger safety and ensuring that air travel is reliable and secure. As the aviation industry continues to grapple with challenges, it is essential that airlines and authorities work together to ensure that air travel is safe, reliable, and convenient for all passengers.
