3 RCB fans arrested for sacrificing goat in front of Virat Kohli cutout in Karnataka
In a bizarre incident that has left many shocked and outraged, three fans of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricket team have been arrested by the Karnataka Police for allegedly sacrificing a goat in front of a cutout of former RCB captain Virat Kohli in Chitradurga district. The incident came to light after a video of the ritual, which was performed to celebrate RCB’s win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Bengaluru, went viral on social media.
According to the police, the three arrested fans, who are aged between 22 and 28, were identified as Raju, Mahesh, and Rakesh. They were arrested on Wednesday evening from their hideout in Chitradurga, where they had set up the makeshift shrine and performed the ritual.
The police received a complaint about the incident from a local resident, who had seen the video on social media and reported it to the authorities. A team of police officers was sent to the location, where they found the three fans in possession of the goat and the cutout of Virat Kohli.
The police have booked the three fans under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 295 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 379 (theft). They are currently being interrogated to understand the motive behind the bizarre act.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with many fans and cricket enthusiasts taking to social media to express their shock and disgust. “This is absolutely horrific,” tweeted one fan. “What kind of twisted individuals would perform such a ritual in the name of cricket?”
Another fan wrote, “This is not what cricket is all about. We love the game, but we shouldn’t stoop to such levels. The fans who did this should be ashamed of themselves.”
The RCB management has also issued a statement condemning the incident. “We are shocked and disturbed by the reports of the ritual performed by some fans,” said a spokesperson for the team. “This is not the spirit of cricket and we strongly condemn such acts. We urge all our fans to respect the game and its values.”
The incident has also raised questions about the role of social media in perpetuating such acts. The viral video of the ritual has sparked a heated debate about the responsibility of social media platforms to curate content and prevent the spread of such offensive and disturbing material.
In a statement, the Karnataka Police said, “We take all complaints seriously and will investigate the matter thoroughly. We will not tolerate any act that promotes or glorifies violence, cruelty, or disrespect to any individual or institution.”
The incident is a stark reminder of the darker side of fandom and the importance of respecting the game and its values. As cricket fans, we must ensure that our passion for the game is not used as an excuse for such bizarre and offensive behavior.
