Heavy Rain & Gusty Winds Hit Mumbai, IMD Issues Yellow Alert
Mumbai, the financial capital of India, witnessed a sudden change in its weather on Tuesday, with heavy rain and gusty winds sweeping across several parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the city.
The pre-monsoon rainfall, which is a common phenomenon in Mumbai, brought relief to the city’s residents, who had been reeling under the scorching heatwave for the past few weeks. However, the gusty winds, which reached speeds of up to 40 km per hour, caused some inconvenience to the daily commute of office-goers and students.
“We were taken aback by the sudden change in weather. The rain was quite heavy and the winds were very strong. I had to hold onto my umbrella to avoid being blown away,” said Rohan Desai, a resident of Dahisar, who was caught in the rain while commuting to work.
The areas that witnessed the most significant rainfall included Dahisar, Jogeshwari, Borivali, Bandra, Kurla, and Powai. The rain, which started around 9 am, continued till the afternoon, bringing with it a sigh of relief to the city’s residents.
The IMD has forecasted that the rain will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, with thunderstorms expected to hit the city. The yellow alert has been issued to warn residents of the possibility of heavy rainfall and strong winds.
“We have issued a yellow alert to inform people about the possibility of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the city. We urge residents to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during the heavy rain and thunderstorms,” said an official from the IMD.
The rain and wind also caused some disruptions to the city’s transport system. Several buses were delayed due to the slippery roads, and the train services were also affected due to the strong winds.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked residents to take necessary precautions to avoid any accidents. “We have asked residents to be cautious while walking or driving on the roads. We have also deployed our teams to clear any waterlogged areas and ensure that the city’s drainage system is functioning properly,” said a BMC official.
The sudden change in weather has also caused some inconvenience to the city’s residents, who were not prepared for the heavy rain and strong winds. Many residents were seen struggling to navigate the flooded roads and streets, while others were forced to cancel their outdoor plans.
Despite the inconvenience, the rain has brought some relief to the city’s residents, who were reeling under the heatwave. “It’s a welcome change from the heatwave. The rain has brought some relief and also washed away the dust and pollution from the city’s streets,” said Rakesh Patil, a resident of Bandra.
As the city continues to experience the pre-monsoon rainfall, residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during the heavy rain and thunderstorms. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates to inform residents about any changes in the weather.
