Sri Lankans Protest Against J&K Attack outside Pak High Commission
In a bold display of solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, an estimated 200-300 Sri Lankans staged a protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Wednesday. The protesters, who were predominantly Sri Lankans, expressed their outrage and condemnation over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, including a Nepali national.
The protest, which was peaceful and well-organized, saw the protesters carrying banners with slogans such as “Stop state-sponsored terrorism” and “We don’t need Pakistan”. The protesters also shouted anti-Pakistan slogans, demanding an end to what they called “state-sponsored terrorism” emanating from Pakistan.
The protesters, who were mostly young Sri Lankans, were from various walks of life, including students, professionals, and workers. They gathered outside the Pakistan High Commission, located in the heart of Colombo, to demonstrate their opposition to the terror attack in Pahalgam.
The protest was a significant display of solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have been facing terror attacks and violence for years. The protesters condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, which was carried out by terrorists, and demanded that Pakistan take immediate action to curb the spread of terrorism from its soil.
The protesters also highlighted the fact that Sri Lanka has been a victim of terrorism itself, having faced a 30-year civil war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) until its defeat in 2009. They expressed their understanding of the pain and suffering that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been facing due to terrorism and demanded that Pakistan take concrete steps to address this issue.
The protest was also seen as a message to the Sri Lankan government to take a strong stance against terrorism and to work closely with other countries to combat this menace. The protesters called upon the Sri Lankan government to take immediate action to prevent any further acts of terrorism on its soil.
The protest was widely covered by local media outlets in Sri Lanka, with many newspapers and television channels carrying stories and footage of the event. The protest was seen as a significant display of national unity and solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and it sent a strong message to Pakistan that Sri Lanka will not tolerate any acts of terrorism on its soil.
In a statement, the protesters said, “We, the people of Sri Lanka, condemn the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in the strongest possible terms. We demand that Pakistan take immediate action to curb the spread of terrorism from its soil and work towards creating a peaceful and stable region.”
The protesters also called upon the international community to take a strong stance against terrorism and to work together to combat this menace. They emphasized that terrorism is a global problem that requires a collective response, and that no country can fight it alone.
As the world continues to grapple with the menace of terrorism, the protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo serves as a reminder that people from different countries and cultures can come together to condemn this evil and to work towards a safer and more peaceful world.
