In a shocking incident, the police in Kochi seized 2 kg of ganja from the men’s hostel of a Government Polytechnic College on Thursday. The seizure led to the arrest of three students and booking of another for possessing 1.909 kg of ganja. The remaining two students were granted station bail after 9.7 grams of ganja were seized from them. The police investigation revealed that the drugs were meant for sale and personal use.
According to the police, the seizure was made during a search operation conducted at the men’s hostel of the Government Polytechnic College in Kochi. The operation was carried out based on a tip-off received by the police about the presence of ganja in the hostel. The police team, led by the Kerala Police’s anti-narcotics squad, searched the hostel and found the contraband drug hidden in a bag.
The police arrested three students and booked another for possessing 1.909 kg of ganja. The arrested students were identified as A, B, and C, all in their early twenties. The police seized 1.909 kg of ganja from one of the students, identified as A, and booked him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The remaining two students, B and C, were granted station bail after 9.7 grams of ganja were seized from them. The police investigation revealed that the drugs were meant for sale and personal use. The police also found that the students had been purchasing the ganja from a local supplier and were selling it to other students and outsiders.
The seized ganja was estimated to be worth around Rs. 1.2 lakh in the market. The police also recovered a few mobile phones and other incriminating materials from the students.
The police officials said that the seizure was a major blow to the drug mafia operating in the city. “We have been receiving complaints about drug abuse and sale among students in the city for some time now. This seizure is a result of our efforts to crack down on the drug mafia,” said a police official.
The police also said that they were investigating the role of the local supplier who had been providing the ganja to the students. “We are trying to identify the supplier and bring him to book,” said the police official.
The Government Polytechnic College has also constituted a committee to investigate the incident and take necessary action against the students involved. The college authorities said that they would not tolerate any form of drug abuse or sale on the campus.
The seizure has sent shockwaves among the students and faculty members of the college. “We are deeply disturbed by the incident. We will take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” said a college official.
The incident has also raised concerns about the prevalence of drug abuse among students in the city. Experts say that drug abuse is a growing problem among students, particularly in the age group of 18-25 years.
“Drug abuse is a serious problem among students. It can lead to addiction, health problems, and even criminal behavior. We need to take a strong stand against drug abuse and provide counseling and rehabilitation services to students who are addicted,” said a counselor.
In conclusion, the seizure of 2 kg of ganja from the men’s hostel of a Government Polytechnic College in Kochi is a major blow to the drug mafia operating in the city. The incident has also raised concerns about the prevalence of drug abuse among students in the city. It is essential that we take a strong stand against drug abuse and provide counseling and rehabilitation services to students who are addicted.
